Course Description

This class is a year-long, required course. It will begin with a review of 8 th grade US History. The main part of the first semester will start with slavery and the Civil War, the growth of America, businesses and jobs, and finish with World War I. Besides the past and important events of early American history, your reading, writing, and other skills will be expanded.

GRADING PROCEDURE

Final semester grades will use the school policy of midterm and finals exams explained in the Student Handbook. But what this means is that your quarter grade is the most important.

Example: Q1 _______ x3= ______ }

}

Q2 _______ x3= ______ } Add= ______ / ____ = _____

}

Final _____ x1=_______ }

The quarter grades use many methods to check what was learned.

Those grades count to your Quarter grade as follows:

REQUIREMENTS

You are required to

MAKEUP/ABSENCE POLICY

Absences and tardiness will be treated according to the rules explained in the handbook. Remember the pink slips/notes for absences and if you are going to be late to class

You will be allowed to makeup quizzes. I will take the highest grade, but it will count no more than a 75. Be prepared!!! Late work, for circumstances other than illness or excused absence, will be accepted but for a lower value, whether homework, papers, or projects.

CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR -

Normal school behavior is expected, especially in accordance with the school handbook. As for the classroom, I will allow students to go to the restrooms for the 1 st 7 minutes of class and the last 7 minutes. As with other classes, the blue pass is needed to leave. They will be on the desk and must be filled out for the teacher to sign. As for talking in class, be polite. Foul language is not needed. To answer a question, make a point, or explain a topic, raise your hand and wait for the teacher to recognize you. If you need to, write your comment on a piece of paper to remember.

HELP

My job is to help you learn US History. The Social Studies Department is in PA 103, and I will be available after school almost every day until 3:25 pm. I will be in the Cafeteria for after school detention but any student can stop by for help. Make sure you have what is needed or remind me to bring certain materials if you need any help. Otherwise, see me after class to make other arrangements. I don’t know if you need help unless you ask. My e-mail address is smacdonald@mansd.org. Also, new this year, is something that may be of help. Check out the website - http://fcmail.mansd.org/~Scott_MacDonald/ - It will include the homework assignment, past homework assignments, and upcoming and past tests and quizzes.

Good Luck!
